  • Area 04 Stewards Fundamentals Course

    Re: Steward Fundamentals 2-Day Training Course For Area 04 Stewards

    When: January 19th & 20th (Monday & Tuesday)

    Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (both days)

    Location: Fraser Valley Area Office – 8555 198A Street, Langley TWP

    Steward Fundamentals is a two-day foundation-level course for new Area 04 Stewards or Area 04 Stewards who have not taken the course within the past six years. It focuses on the essential skills every steward needs to know. Through discussion and interactive group activities, you will be introduced to the key roles and responsibilities of a steward as advocate, educator, organizer, and communicator. Stewards will leave feeling more confident, effective in their role, and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer. 

    This course is for Area 04 elected Stewards, and Local Officers who have not previously taken the Steward Fundamentals Training.

    A union-paid leave-of-absence (LOA) is provided for this course. If you require a LOA, please provide how many hours you are scheduled to work per shift on the registration form. Lunch will be provided, please advise of dietary restrictions and/or allergies.

  • Local Executive Leadership Training: Local 504 and 2004

    We are very excited to announce that your Local Executive Training & Strategic Planning Session has been confirmed for Wednesday, January 21st, Thursday, January 22nd and Friday, January 23rd, 2026. This is a very important session, and we hope that you will make every effort to attend.

    Steward Fundamentals is a two-day foundation-level course for all stewards. It focusses on the essential skills every steward needs to know. Through discussion and interactive group activities, you will be introduced to the key roles and responsibilities of a steward as advocate, educator, organizer and communicator. Stewards will leave feeling more confident and effective in their role and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer.

    This course is for elected stewards and local officers who have not previously taken the Steward Fundamentals course in the past six years. We recommend that stewards and local officers take the one-day STEP UP! course before taking Steward Fundamentals or review the online STEP UP! course materials at https://learn.bcgeu.ca before attending.

    · A union-paid leave-of-absence is provided for this course.

    · Travel, meals and accommodation, if required, are also provided.

    · Reasonable child and/or other dependent care expenses may be reimbursed.

    This online webinar will provide you with all the basics of parliamentary procedure and the necessary skills to run a meeting effectively. Topics covered will include the duties of a chairperson and secretary, what the rules of order are, how they work, and how the rules of order can provide a democratic and fair process to get the business of your union, labour council or other organization accomplished.

    This webinar is presented online through Zoom. You will be sent login information upon registration via email and again 1-2 days prior to the webinar.

    Local Leadership is a 3 day foundation course for new and experienced local executive members in Locals 7,10 & 17). This course focuses on planning, member engagement and building strong locals.

    You can request a union-paid leave of absence from your employer for this training. We will send you a leave-of-absence form to submit to your supervisor.
