    Whether you're a brand new BCGEU member or you've been a member for a while, this STEP UP! workshop will introduce you to our union and help you develop your skills and knowledge around your rights as a worker and the role the union plays in supporting workers, their families, and our communities. Through stories of courage and strength, you will gain the clarity and support you need along with some useful union tools and strategies to get started with the BCGEU. You will leave feeling more informed, confident, and ready to connect with your co-workers.

     A union-paid leave-of-absence is provided for this course.

     Travel, meals and accommodation, if required, are also provided.

     Reasonable child and/or other dependent care expenses may be reimbursed.

  • Area05 In-Person Steward Fundamentals 2-Day Course

    Steward Fundamentals is a two-day foundation-level course for all stewards. It focusses on the essential skills every steward needs to know. Through discussion and interactive group activities, you will be introduced to the key roles and responsibilities of a steward as advocate, educator, organizer and communicator. Stewards will leave feeling more confident and effective in their role and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer.

    This course is for elected stewards and local officers who have not previously taken the Basic Steward Training in the past five years. We recommend that stewards and local officers take the one-day STEP UP course before taking Steward Fundamentals.

    • A union-paid leave-of-absence is provided for this course.

    • Travel, meals and accommodation, if required, are also provided.

    • Reasonable child and/or other dependent care expenses may be reimbursed.

  • Area 03 - Steward Fundamentals - Two Day Course

    Steward Fundamentals is a two-day foundation-level course for all stewards. It focusses on the essential skills every steward needs to know.   • Area 06 - STEP Up

    You are invited to join us and your fellow BCGEU members for a day of education at the Cariboo Area Office.

    STEP UP, our introductory one-day course, will introduce you to the BCGEU, explore our common values, union culture, and our diverse community of members. Through stories of solidarity and courage, you will gain the strength and support you need to begin your journey as a new or returning steward. Along the way, you will learn about your fundamental union rights and useful union tools and strategies for getting started in your role. Newly elected stewards will have priority registration. You will leave feeling more informed, confident, and ready to support a member through a Step 1 grievance. This course is the first step on our new learning pathway for stewards.

    **NOTE: A Union paid leave of absence will be provided with this course, please include LOA requirements with your RSVP. Hotel accommodation is available for the night before ONLY to members attending in person from Bella Coola, Quesnel or outlying areas. Lunch will be provided. Please indicate if you have any allergies or special dietary requirements in your RSVP.**

Stewards will leave feeling more confident and effective in their role and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer.

    · Priority will be given to Stewards who have not received this training, or not in the past 4 years.

    · A union-paid leave of absence is provided for this course. (Include hours of work details in your RSVP) Please get approval from your supervisor prior to registering.

    · Reasonable child and/or other dependent care expenses may be reimbursed.
