Whether you're a brand new BCGEU member or you've been a member for a while, this STEP UP! workshop will introduce you to our union and help you develop your skills and knowledge around your rights as a worker and the role the union plays in supporting workers, their families, and our communities. Through stories of courage and strength, you will gain the clarity and support you need along with some useful union tools and strategies to get started with the BCGEU. You will leave feeling more informed, confident, and ready to connect with your co-workers.

Steward Fundamentals is a two-day foundation–level course for all stewards. It focuses on the essential skills every steward needs to know. Through discussion and interactive group activities, you will be introduced to the key roles and responsibilities of a steward as advocate, educator, organizer and communicator. Stewards will leave feeling more confident and effective in their role and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer.
This Two day course is for elected stewards and local officers who have not previously taken the Basic Steward Training in the past five years.

Raising Financially Fit Kids: Parents will learn some easy to implement techniques to teach kids about savings, giving, and spending. Facilitated by Mark Kalinowski from the Credit Counselling Society.

Borrowing 101 - Financing Basics: Participants will learn about the various types of financing including secured, unsecured, joint, secondary and short-term/high interest credit. Your Area 02 Cross Component Committee is inviting all Area 02 members to attend a free to you education session related to Digital Literacy and Best Online Practices – Social Media and the Lay of the Land.

This training is being provided by an award winning & recognized internet safety and digital literacy education specialists. Through a locally based company, The White Hatter https://thewhitehatter.ca/, facilitating workshops and providing presentations on technology safety and privacy.
Social Media and the Lay of the Land:
Helping to cultivate opportunities and address challenges in a digital world". Helping workers to proactively understand the enabling power of technology and mobile communications. Current case law and "Best Practices" specific to workers and their use of social media. How to reduce the risk of a student/client using the internet as a weapon against an educator/worker.
