Please join us for a special event on October 5th to put child care on the agenda during this federal election!

The BCGEU will join our friends at The Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC, Early Childhood Educators of BC and The Waitlisted Project for a province-wide Stroller Brigade for Child Care – and we'd like you to be part of the fun!

In Vancouver, the Stroller Brigade for Child Care is Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 at the Roundhouse Community Centre at 181 Roundhouse Mews.

Bring your family, your friends, your signs and be prepared for a short walk from the Roundhouse Community Centre up Davie Street to Emery Barnes Park. We'll also need volunteers to be parade marshalls to keep children safe in the street.

The Drive Street Band will be leading us with some marching tunes!

Why is child care a federal election issue? Child care funding is managed by the provinces, but a portion of that funding comes from the federal government. Together we need to ensure that those elected on October 21st support the accessible, affordable child care by protecting the $50 million BC now receives annually for child care – and committing to grow that amount over time.

And we won't be alone! On October 5th in communities across the province families and educators will be holding Stroller Brigades to make child care visible. Check out this growing list of communities across the province that will be marching for child care!

So RSVP today, tell your friends and share the Facebook event for the Stroller Brigade on October 5th!

In solidarity,

Andrea Duncan
Vice-President, Community Social Services
