Note: You are entitled to a minimum of 08 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers' Compensation Act and your Collective Agreement. Please ensure that you have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training. We are unable to provide a union paid LOA for this course.

An incident happens at your workplace and you suddenly get a call to participate in an investigation. What do you do? What is the purpose of an investigation? What is required? This course will answer all these questions and provide you with the opportunity to improve your investigative skills. Please ensure that you are a union appointed committee member, and that you have taken the prerequisite Basic Committee Training course prior to registering for this course.

In this course, you will learn:

  • The legal requirements for conducting accident/incident investigations in a timely manner
  • Joint investigations with employer and worker representative participation
  • The 7 step process – secure the scene, collect data, develop the sequence of events, determine the causes, recommendations, write the report, refer other hazards discovered during this process to OH&S committee
  • Effective interviewing skills
  • Review of multiple causes often involved
  • Recommendations and effective control measures
