OHS - Labour Code Basic Committee Training Online

Note: You are entitled to a minimum of 08 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers' Compensation Act and your Collective Agreement. Please ensure that you have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training. We are unable to provide a union paid LOA for this course.

This is an introductory course offered to union appointed OH&S representatives. BCGEU courses are also open to employer OH&S representatives. This course is a prerequisite for all other BCGEU OH&S courses. It is a must for newly appointed representatives, and a refresher for those with experience. In this course, you will learn:

Module 1:

  • 4 basic OHS rights – Right to Know, Right to Participate, Right to Refuse Unsafe Work and Right to No Retaliation
  • Introduction to the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Roles and responsibilities of the employer, supervisor, workers and committees
  • Committee structure, duties, and functions and committee evaluations

Module 2:

  • Hazard identification and control measures
  • Introduction to workplace inspections and incident investigations

This course is limited to 24 spots so register early to avoid disappointment.

You will receive a link for the zoom meeting by Friday, January 7th at the latest.

Prior to the course date, ensure you are able to join "Zoom" meetings.  You will also be sent an electronic copy of the course participant kit, which includes the PowerPoint presentation and resource documents needed for the course.
