To all Labour Code OHS Committee Members in Area 07 (Vernon, Kelowna, Summerland, Peachland, Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos),

Note: You are entitled to a minimum of 08 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers' Compensation Act and your Collective Agreement. Please ensure that you have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training. We are unable to provide a union paid LOA for this course.

Basic OHS Committee Training

This is an introductory course offered to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) committee members. BCGEU courses are open to both worker and employer representatives. This course is a prerequisite for all other BCGEU OHS courses. It is a must for new committee members and a refresher for those with experience.

In this course, you will learn:

  • 4 health and safety rights
  • Introduction to the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Roles and responsibilities of the employer, supervisor, workers and committees
  • Hazard identification and control measures
  • How to conduct workplace inspections and incident investigations
  • Committee structure and mandatory committee evaluations
