You are entitled to a minimum of 8 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers Compensation Act, Section 41. In addition, within your first 6 months of being appointed as an OH&S representative, you must receive 8 hours of Basic OH&S Training (OHS Regulations, Section 3.27). Our "Basic OH&S Committee Training" course fulfills the requirements for the initial training.
You must have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training. We are unable to provide a union paid LOA for this course.
OHS Risk Assessment (New!)
The BCGEU is excited to introduce our new Occupational Health and Safety training course for OHS representatives in the Lower Mainland area. This 8 hour course will provide you with a better understanding of the risk assessments required at worksites in order to ensure the health and safety of workers.
In this course, you will learn about your role and responsibilities in required risk assessments for working alone, First Aid, violence, exposure control plans, and ergonomics. A practical component is included in this course, participants will work through a variety of scenarios in order to enhance your learning experience.
