Local 1001 and Local 1002 are in the process of some fundamental changes. Your Local Chairpersons view this as an important time for stewards in the two locals to come together to share your experiences, learn from your staff representatives, and learn from each other.

Changes in highways maintenance contracts have resulted in Mainroad, the historical contractor in BCGEU Area 01 becoming the contractor in BCGEU Area 02. At the same time, Emcon, the historical contractor in BCGEU Area 02 has become the contractor in BCGEU Area 01. The union's experiences with these two contractors has been very different.

In Local 1002, members working for the employer PRT are being affected by changes related to their industry, forestry tree nurseries, union operations and pending contract negotiations.

 In addition, the union is in the process of a transformational change of applying principles of the organizing model of labour unions to the BCGEU's operations. This process provides a combination of challenges in implementation and some great successes in changing the experience of members being in a labour union.
