Labour Code OHS - Online Basic Committee Training

Note: You are entitled to a minimum of 08 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers' Compensation Act and your Collective Agreement. Please ensure that you have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training.

This is an introductory course offered to union appointed committee members in the non-government sector. BCGEU courses are also open to other OHS committee representatives, such as employer reps or worker reps from other unions. This course is a prerequisite for all other BCGEU OH&S courses. It is a must for new committee members and a refresher for those with experience. In this course, you will learn:

July 29, 9am to 4:30pm PST - Modules 1 & 2:

  • 4 basic OHS rights – Right to Know, Right to Participate, Right to Refuse Unsafe Work and Right to No Retaliation
  • Introduction to the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Roles and responsibilities of the employer, supervisor, workers and committees
  • Committee structure, duties, and functions and committee evaluations
  • Hazard identification and control measures
  • Introduction to workplace inspections and incident investigations
