Re Local 302 – First Opportunity for Steward Online Training

 During this time of vigilance regarding social distancing, your union has developed training for stewards that is provided using video conferencing. This is not to replace your union's Step Up training or its Steward Fundamentals training. Those will resume when it is safe to do so.

 A small number of Local 302 stewards are being offered this training first. This includes new stewards and for stewards who have not received steward training for a significant number of years. It is important that new stewards become oriented to the union and the important role that stewards play. It is equally important that stewards remain committed to the members and to the union. Ongoing training is an important aspect of demonstrating and maintaining that commitment.

 You are being invited to participate in this one-day training to be held on Thursday October 15 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Union leave will be provided for the day so stewards do not need to experience wage loss. Where a steward working a night shift requires leave because of an abutting shift, leave is provided.

 This special day will bring together stewards who work in the community social services sector. It will permit stewards to learn together with other stewards who perform work related to their own work.

If you are unable to take the training on this date, your union local asks that you sign up for the same online training on November 4 and 5. This training day will include a mixture of BCGEU members, including some who do not work in the community social services sector.

 You can only participate in one of these training dates. You are receiving this special invitation because your union local is asking you specifically to benefit from this training in October or November so that you and your union can best serve the members where you work.
