L1703 BCGEU 51ST TRIENNIAL CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION – NOMINATION & ELECTION OF DELEGATES AND ALTERNATES FOR THE 2021 BCGEU CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION - EVENTS

The BCGEU 51st Triennial Constitutional Convention will be taking place from Wednesday, June 9, 2021 to Saturday, June 12, 2021. The Constitutional Convention is where BCGEU members elect the President, Treasurer, and the four Executive Vice-Presidents and determine what the mandate of YOUR Union will be over the next three years.

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCGEU will be holding a hybrid convention with most delegates attending convention virtually. Additional delegates may be able to attend convention in person, if public health orders and restrictions permit.

To attend Convention, you must be elected as a delegate (or alternate) of your Local. Local 1703 is entitled to 25 delegates and 5 alternates. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, election of all delegates and alternates will be done by electronic voting.

Nominations are now open for delegates (and alternates) to Convention. Elections (if required) for will be open on February 18, 2021 and will close on February 22, 2021. The timelines for the process is:

January 19: Delegate and alternate nominations open for 30 days

February 17: Local Meeting comes to order at 5 pm. Nomination period closes at 5:15 pm

February 18: Election period opens (3 business days)

February 22: Deadline for online voter registration at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time

February 22: E-voting closes at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time

February 23: Results of e-vote will be available

 If you wish to participate or run for a position (delegate or alternate), you must do the following by February 17, 2021:

1. Register for the Local meeting

The 1703 Local Meeting is being conducted via zoom and is scheduled for February 17th, 2021. The meeting will start at 5 pm. To participate, you will need to pre-register so that you will be sent the Zoom link. 

The local meeting is where the nomination period ends and where Resolution to Convention will be reviewed and recommended to be advanced to the Component. The meeting will be called to order at 5 pm and there will be a formal call for nominations at 5:15 pm. Nomination form received before 5:15 pm will be accepted. If more nominations forms are received than local 1703 is entitled to attend an election will be held and you will be sent voting credentials when the voting period opens. When you register, you will also be sent an electronic ballot when voting opens on February 18, 2021. If you do not register, you will not receive voting credentials.

2. Complete a Delegates/Alternate Nomination Form

If you would like to attend convention as a delegate or alternate, you must complete the attached nomination form and return it via email to [email protected] before 5:15 pm on February 17, 2021. Your nomination form may include a bio you would like added to the ballot (max. 350 words plus one photo). Bios will be not accepted once nominations close (see timeline above).

Voting

If you would like to participate in the election of the delegates to Convention for local 1703, you must have registered for the local meeting (see link above). 

During the registration process a non-work email address will be required to receive your ballot (many employer email systems have firewalls which will prevent an electronic ballot from reaching your Inbox). 

When voting opens, you will receive an electronic ballot to the email you supplied when you registered. The ballot will contain the names of the nominees for delegates and alternates. You will be given instructions on how cast your ballot.

You can vote electronically by using the link provided until 3:00 p.m. on February 22, 2021, after which balloting closes.

Results

When balloting is closed, the delegates (and alternates) will be tallied and the results will be communicated.
