Please note: This workshop event has been postponed with new dates to be determined. We will notify members by email with an RSVP invitation once the new dates have been determined.

The celebration of BCGEU's occupation of Tranquille in 1983 is taking place at a moment when working people are fighting back with new organizing campaigns and strikes in BC and across North America. What can we learn from our history about militancy, organizing, striking--and winning? Using stories, music, pictures, and the experience of participants, Mark Leier will outline moments in labour history that we can draw on and learn from to develop new ideas to meet the challenges we face today.

A professor in the History Department at Simon Fraser University, Mark Leier has worked as a labourer, cook, bridge-tender, busker, and more. Over his working life, he has been a member of several unions, including the Glaziers, CUPE, Carpenters, TSSU, and now the SFU Faculty Association. An award-winning teacher, he is the author of several books and articles on labour history.

Light snacks will be available
