Introduction to ASL and Deaf Culture Awareness

BCGEU Learning is pleased to offer an American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Culture Awareness online workshop as part of our Solidarity stream in our Learning for Leadership program.
In this 75-minute workshop, you will learn foundational American Sign Language (ASL) skills including basic vocabulary, greetings, and common phrases, and be introduced to the cultural nuances and etiquette for interacting with members of the deaf community. ASL/English interpretation and closed captioning will be available.
Instructor Arlene Brenner has been Deaf since birth and has been teaching, coaching, and training on the topics of American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf life and experience for over 28 years.
Note: Members interested in this workshop will need to attend on their own time, unfortunately, LOAs will not be offered for this session.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and space is limited to 25 spots per workshop, register early to avoid disappointment. Please cancel within 48 hrs to allow us to contact those on our waiting list.
