Emergency First Aid for Community Care

This is a fast-paced one-day course that meets first aid requirements under the Ministry of Health - Community Care Licensing Branch. It is suitable for anyone who provides care for infants, children and/or adults including licensed adult residential care facilities and group homes, workers in health care, community based social services, schools, child care centres, recreation and leisure, and other settings.

Course contents include:

  • roles & responsibilities
  • management of an unresponsive casualty
  • management of a responsive casualty with head/spinal injuries
  • adult, child, and infant resuscitation including 1 rescuer CPR and first aid for choking
  • introduction to automated external defibrillation (AED)
  • severe bleeding
  • medical conditions
  • eye injuries
  • poisons
  • burns
  • heat and cold injuries
  • secondary survey
  • bone and joint injuries
  • dental emergencies
  • written exam

This course is free and open to BCGEU members and their families.

Cancellations with less than 72 hours' notice prevent us from offering your place to someone on our waiting list. Please only register if you are certain you can attend this course.

A light lunch is provided.

This class begins at 9:00 am sharp, those who arrive late may not be able to participate.

Government-issued photo identification is required to receive your certificate, so please bring it with you to class.
