The Area 03 Cross Component Committee is honored to host the webinar Canada's Residential School System and the Impacts, presented by Spelexílh, Anjeanette Dawson, the BCGEU Indigenous Education Officer.
In this webinar, attendees will explore the rich history of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) people and learn about the profound and lasting impacts of the Residential School system on Indigenous communities. This presentation aims to foster a deeper understanding of the ongoing effects of colonialism and the resilience of Indigenous people, nations, and cultures. There will be a brief period near the end of the session for questions.
Spelexílh, Anjeanette Dawson is an Indigenous Educator, traditional wool weaver, knowledge keeper and BCGEU's Indigenous Education Officer. Anjeanette has over 35 years of work experience as well as a lifetime of lived experiences that she shares during her presentations. Anjeanette has been facilitating workshops all over BC to cross components, delivering keynote speeches and sharing her knowledge of pre-contact history, the effects of colonization & Residential School. Anjeanette is creating relationships to support the 900-1000 Indigenous BCGEU members across the province. Working and brainstorming with Indigenous colleagues to work together to be an advocate for Indigenous BCGEU members.
