We have to sing (in Duncan)!
A fun, interactive, workshop on labour activism and music
Greetings BCGEU Members in the Duncan/Cowichan Valley area,
After the overwhelming participation and fun had at this event in the Victoria area, we are taking it on the road to Duncan to ensure more members can come and enjoy the music.
We would like to invite our members in the Cowichan Valley area to a workshop on Thursday, July 18, 2024 intended to explore, create and invigorate this musical tradition. In this workshop, there is no previous musical experience required; in any way shape or form; simply a desire to express and participate. If you just want to sing, you can sing!
If you play an acoustic instrument, please bring them along!
In this workshop we will be focusing on the songs of the last workshop and some new ones. We will look at the history and content of the songs, and ways to continue making them relevant today. Lyrics can always be modified and adapted, but some of these songs are as true today as they were 100 years ago!
If you would like to acquaint yourself with the songs prior to coming out, please let us know so we can connect you with resources.
We hope to see many of you there and share in the joy of song, build solidarity and have some fun!
Please RRSP as space is limited.
In solidarity,
Peter Janz, Shop Steward & Recording Secretary, Local 301
and the Area 01 Cross Component Committee
