The Area 01 Cross Component Committee in collaboration with the local 1201 Indigenous Reconciliation and Anti Racism (IRAR) Committee, invites you to gather in recognition of Red Dress Day. On Saturday, May 9, we will screen Canada's Missing Women Tragedy, a powerful documentary that sheds light on the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and 2SLGBTQI+ People (MMIWG2S) in Canada.

Together, we honour the lives lost, acknowledge the truths that must be faced, and create space for meaningful dialogue and connection. Let us come together in community to witness, to learn, and to stand in shared commitment to reconciliation and anti-racism.

We will hold this event on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, represented today by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and we acknowledge their enduring stewardship of these lands and waters.

This gathering may bring forward strong emotions. We encourage members to participate in the way that feels safest for them - whether that means stepping out, listening quietly, or sharing in discussion. Our intention is to create a respectful, trauma-informed space rooted in care, solidarity, and accountability.

Note: The subject matter is suitable for individuals 13 years of age or older.

Following the film, we will hold space for a supportive discussion, as well as time to connect with fellow members. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

This event is part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, anti-racism, and ensuring that Indigenous lives are remembered, honoured, and never reduced to statistics.

Please RSVP soon so organizers can make the necessary arrangements to support a welcoming and well-prepared gathering.

We look forward to seeing you!

In solidarity,

Area 01 Cross Component Committee and Local 1201 Indigenous Reconciliation and Anti-Racism Committee
