The honour of your presence is requested. You and a guest are invited to attend an "Evening at the Museum". We will be having appetizers (there will be a number of appetizer stations) a cash bar, and you are welcome to visit the exhibits.

Accommodation will be arranged and a confirmation sent to you prior to the banquet (overnight accommodation will be billed directly to the Union) if required/eligible. For those members living in the greater Victoria area, taxis will be reimbursed as noted below.

We invite all 411/10 members to STEP UP, the BCGEU's new introductory, one-day course, to introduce you to the BCGEU, explore our common values, union culture, and our diverse community of members. This training will also provide you with the opportunity to network in an environment of others within your local only and to connect with your fellow members and some of your component.
Through stories of solidarity and courage, you will gain the strength and support in your journey as a member of the BCGEU. Along the way, you will learn about fundamental union rights and useful union tools and strategies.

Expenses & Leave of Absences
The BCGEU will reimburse your Employer for any time you are away from work to attend this course. The normal union expense policy will apply (including mileage, parking, hotel accommodation and meal allowances).
REMEMBER: Please request your UNION PAID leave of absence immediately with your employer as EMPLOYERS MAY REQUIRE TWO (2) WEEKS NOTICE FOR YOUR LEAVE!

Steward Fundamentals, our new introductory 2-day course, focuses on the essential skills every steward needs to know. Through interactive group activities, role-plays, and skills development, stewards are introduced to the key roles and responsibilities of a steward as advocate, educator, organizer and communicator. Stewards will leave feeling more confident and effective in their role and skillful in their interactions with members and the employer.
Lunch will be provided. To ensure enough food is ordered, please RSVP to the Peace River Area Office as soon as possible, but before Wednesday, November 7th, 2018.
It is that time of year again...each Local Chair – along with one (1) delegate per local – is asked to attend the upcoming Local Chair + 1 Session for 2018. Conducting and facilitating the session will be Rob Wotherspoon, Regional Coordinator.
IMPORTANT: Please appoint a second delegate to represent your Local. This delegate must be from your Executive. Please provide the name of your delegate in your response.

The Union will be hosting an Enhanced Steward Training Day for all BCGEU Local 703 Stewards on Tuesday November 27, 2016, at the Lower Mainland Area Office.
We will be using this day to inform, discuss and connect. The enhanced stewards course is an annual refresher course. All Stewards are encouraged to attend this one day training to update the skills that you have learned in previous courses.
The topics covered in this course will include:
Effective step 1 meetings
Investigation of the facts of a grievance
Filling out grievance forms and providing supporting documentation
Forwarding grievances to the Union – best practices
The role of the steward and the staff representative
The role of the steward
Duty of fair representation
Attending local meetings and provide a worksite report
Building a stronger worksite steward
Best practices for:
representing a member in a discipline meeting
representing a member in an investigation meeting

In preparation for upcoming bargaining, the BCGEU is providing a two-day Enhanced Stewards training course which focuses on Internal Organizing.
Activists will leave the course with a clear understanding on the importance of internal organizing, the steps to achieve a more active and responsive membership, and a plan of action that will allow for better participation and communication with your membership.
The Area 04 Cross Component Committee is hosting "Breakfast with Santa" together with a craft fair. Come and enjoy breakfast, get your picture taken with Santa and explore handmade crafts.
