    Our members working for Gateway Casinos in the Okanagan and Kamloops have been on strike for a more than 6 weeks, now. All BCGEU members are encouraged to come out and support our members on the picket line. The Area 07 Cross Component Committee is sponsoring a BBQ in support of our striking casino members – starting at 5 p.m. on August 23, 2018 at each of the three Okanagan locations. You are invited and encouraged to attend at one of these locations!

  • Kamloops Pride

    Pride Season is here again in Kamloops! 

    Pride is a celebration, but it is also more than just that- it is a social and rights-based movement. We welcome any opportunity to lift up the accomplishments that have been made by and with our LGBTQI2S+ friends but we also recognize what it's all about- visibility and community for queer and trans folks.

    On Sunday, August 26th, 2018 BCGEU members will be marching in the Kamloops Pride parade and we want you to join us!

    DATE: August 26, 2018

    TIME: Meet up at 10:30 am, Parade starts at 11:00 am

    The Pride parade kicks off at 11:00 am at Riverside Park, 100 Lorne Street, and all marchers should arrive by 10:30 am. The parade will be a marching only event and will end at Riverside Park with a family-friendly festival.

    We'll need volunteers from 9-3 to help with the march and to greet community members at the BCGEU table. If you are interested please contact Kari at kari.bepple.bcgeu@gmail.com or 250-574-5100.

    Bring your sun hat, water bottle, celebratory spirit and your allyship.

    Whether you are marching with us or just watching the parade from the sidewalk, be sure to look out for your fellow members.

  • Area 05 Activist Appreciation Banquet

    As a "thank you" for your service to the membership of our Union, you and your spouse, or guest, are cordially invited to attend our 2018 Activist Appreciation Event. We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy a festive evening with your fellow activists, special guests, and Area Office staff.

    WHEN: Saturday – September 8, 2018

    5:00 p.m. – Cocktails, Appetizers

    6:00 p.m. – Introductions, Speakers

    7:00 p.m. – Buffet Dinner

    8:30 p.m. - Entertainment

     WHERE: Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre

    Please note that it is BCGEU policy that where alcohol is served at an event, transportation to and from the event and/or accommodation for out of town guests, will be provided and paid for by the BCGEU - in accordance with BCGEU Financial Policy. Other costs associated with attending this Appreciation Night can be claimed in accordance with the amounts and eligible expenses indicated on the Union's Expense Claim Form. Such expense claims should be forwarded to the Kamloops BCGEU Office for approval and processing of reimbursement.

    If you will require a leave of absence from work in order to attend this event, you should obtain verbal approval from your supervisor as soon as possible, while noting that the Union will provide you with the necessary paperwork for a Union-paid leave after the registration deadline. All those requiring accommodation will have rooms reserved for them at the Coast Kamloops Hotel. Please Note: If you are requesting a hotel room, please register prior to August 8, 2018. If you do not require a hotel room, please register prior to August 15, 2018.

     

    We will not accept any late registrations.

    We sincerely hope you will be able to join us on September 8, 2018 and look forward to seeing you then. If you cannot attend, after having registered, please be sure to cancel your RSVP. If you need assistance with this, please contact the Area Office. Also, please let the Area Office know so that catering and other arrangements can be adjusted.

    The Area 05 Cross-Component Committee would once again like to present its:

    Spirit of Commitment Award

    A deserving activist will receive this award at the annual Activist Appreciation Event being held on September 8, 2018. The award is intended to recognize a member in our area for demonstrating a spirit of excellence, dedication, and sacrifice in providing service to the membership and Union as a whole - the spirit and desire to make a difference.

    Nominee criteria includes the following:

    The nominee must be a current "active" BCGEU member. 

    The nominee must have been a Steward, Local Officer, Bargaining Committee Member or Union-appointed Occupational Health & Safety Representative for a minimum of one year.

    Nominators must be current members of the BCGEU or staff and must return a fully-completed Spirit of Commitment Nomination Form to the Kamloops BCGEU Office by noon on Friday, August 3, 2018.

    OUT OF TOWN MEMBERS: If you require accommodations, the office will need to be notified by Wednesday, August 15, 2018 otherwise, we will not be able to guarantee accommodations for this event. Accommodations will be booked as required and if available after this date.
