This three (3) day “Steward Training” course (9:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m. each day) will be held at the: 

LOCATION: Peace River Area Office of the BCGEU 10251 - 100th Street, Fort St. JohnDATE: Three Days ~ April 25-26-27, 2017TIME: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

 Provided to all new BCGEU stewards, this training clarifies the steward’s role, rights and responsibilities. It identifies support and resources available to stewards as they take forward grievances, interpret and protect their collective agreement rights, and communicate with members. The course, adapted to meet the needs in each area, often includes an introduction to Canadian labour history, Step 2 grievance handling, communications training, and information on the structure of the BCGEU. Stewards’ Training helps new stewards develop the skills and confidence they need to be workplace leaders.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, you MUST be a Steward or Local Officer who has never taken the former Basic Steward Course or the newly updated Steward Training (or, if you need refresher training, call your BCGEU Staff Representative at the Peace River Area Office of the BCGEU for pre-approval).

EXPENSES AND LEAVE OF ABSENCE

The BCGEU will reimburse your Employer for any time you are away from work to attend this course. The normal union expense policy will apply (including mileage, parking, hotel accommodation and meal allowances).

REMEMBER: Please request your UNION PAID leave of absence immediately with your employer as EMPLOYERS MAY REQUIRE TWO (2) WEEKS NOTICE FOR YOUR LEAVE!
