Note: You are entitled to a minimum of 08 hours of annual OH&S training, as mandated by the Workers' Compensation Act, Section 41 and your Collective Agreement. Please ensure that you have approval from your employer prior to applying for this EMPLOYER PAID training. We are unable to provide a union paid LOA for this course.

Basic Committee Training – Labour Code
This is an introductory course offered to union appointed committee members. BCGEU Courses are also open to employer representatives. This course is a prerequisite for all other BCGEU OH&S courses. It is a must for new committee members and a refresher for those with experience.

In this course, you will learn:

  • 4 worker rights – Right to Know, Right to Participate, Right to Refuse Unsafe Work and Right to No Discrimination,
  • Introduction to the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.
  • Roles and responsibilities of the employer, supervisor, workers and committees,
  • Hazard identification and control measures,
  • Introduction to workplace inspections and incident investigations,
  • Committee structure,
  • job description and committee evaluations.
