AGENDA

·         SELF-CARE AND RESILIENCE FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS – This workshop explore cultivating self-care, managing stress and building resilience for workers in caring professions.

·         CREATING CONNECTIONS:  WORKING WITH PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA – In this workshop you will learn to better understand Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, receive key tips for communication, and learn how to be creative in dealing with some of the behaviours common among persons with dementia.  The information will be presented within the context of "person-centered  care".  Through lecture, interactive discussion, and video clips, you will gain the tools to feel more confident and safe as a caregiver, so you are able to provide the best care possible.

·         A FEW THINGS THAT WILL HELP YOUR WCB CLAIM, AND WHY - Getting hurt at work is no fun.  It can also considerably disrupt your life and the lives of those closest to you.  It can be hard to get good help if you need to appeal a decision made on your workers' compensation claim.  The BCGEU is one of only a few Unions that provides assistance to members who want to appeal decisions that affect their entitlement on their workers' compensation claim.  There is a sufficient number of requests from members for appeal assistance each year to keep four full-time staff representatives busy.   While this assistance is free and readily available to members of the BCGEU, there are things one can do for oneself that will greatly enhance the chances of avoiding problems in the first place. Understanding the concept of workers' compensation and keeping in mind a few simple things can help a member avoid many of the issues we commonly see in WCB Advocacy.  This session will look at, and dispel, some of the common myths surrounding workers' compensation, and examine how, and why, the system operates as it does.   The better one understands the system, the greater the chances of successfully navigating it.  Paying attention to a few simple things can greatly diminish the chances of encountering difficulty with a claim, or needing to appeal a decision made on it.  Stewards, Union officers, activists, and interested members should find this session informative and useful.

·         COMMON ISSUES IN THE WORKSITE – This will be an open discussion to discuss any issues for Local 412 worksites.

Will you come?
